Math
Math is the exciting field in which individuals and teams get to use mathematical principles to solve uniquely modern problems. Areas of specialization within the field of math are as varied as the scientific and technological advances that have improved life over the past century. But because human health and safety relies so heavily on the skill and accuracy of the work performed by mathematicians, much to the surprise of many, it is not a field for the faint-hearted. Mathematicians especially are held to high standards by government regulation and certification procedures.
Yet the rewards of following through on this area of study are as bold as its challenges. Computers, household appliances, cars, aircraft, highway and bridge systems, medical devices, and electrical equipment are only some of the many components of modern life in need of continual rethinking and upgrading. As new forms of reusable energy are explored and developed, mathematicians will be on the cutting edge of developing these new technologies too.
It should be quite evident from what’s been said so far, but this area of study should certainly not be a boring pursuit. Although it is most often learned within the walls of a classroom, its implications and uses reach into every nook and cranny imaginable around the globe. Math can, and should be, one of the most fun things you’ve ever pursued. It’s all about perception. If you just think on in it for a little bit, you should be able to come up with at least a dozen ways in which this academic area affected your life in the last couple of hours!
